Fans of Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel television shows have been loving the ongoing comics series from Dark Horse Comics and IDW Publishing. If you’re a fan of Fox’s late, lamented small-screen Angel but haven’t picked up the comic yet, the Angel Not Fade Away TPB is the perfect place to start!
Written by Joss Whedon himself, with art by Stephen Mooney and Jeff Johnson the Angel Not Fade Away TPB is a three-issue adaptation of the final episode of Whedon’s beloved Angel television series. This graphic novel leads to a climactic battle in an alleyway that fans now know was only the end of the beginning!
This collection includes the three-part Not Fade Away miniseries, as well as the script for the original television episode and spot illustrations.
If you’re one of the millions of fans of the popular web series, The Guild, have we got a treat for you! We’ve got two teaser pages from the upcoming comic, by Felicia Day and Jim Rugg!
If you haven’t heard of The Guild, go check out my article “Why You Should Watch The Guild“ and then come back. It’s a quirky, hilarious, well-written series about a group of online gamers and their struggle to deal with the annoyances of “real world.” Think a much geekier version of The Office and you’re halfway there. Creator/writer/star Felicia Day is a veteran of the Whedon-verse, including Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Dollhouse!
As you can see, it’s a nice introduction to the characters, and it includes the one thing we don’t see on the show: in-game play! So you can see the characters in their avatar costumes–a great touch.
If you watched the Emmy Awards last night, chances are you saw something shocking and disturbing: somehow, the evil Dr. Horrible hijacked the otherwise peaceful awards ceremony, proclaiming the end of television as we know it! Fortunately, he was bested by the handsome and oh-so-smart Captain Hammer (favorite TV show: CSI Miami–the other two are “too heady” for him). Moist and Penny also make an appearance in this sure-to-be memorable event:
Now that we’ve (mostly) recovered from Comic-Con, it’s time to mine our remaining video footage for awesome clips! Next up, the beautiful and talented Felicia Day, writer/actress from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and The Guild, as she talks about making the hilarious video “Do You Want to Date My Avatar?” Also, Joss Whedon’s head makes a brief appearance (he’s at the left side of the screen in the beginning:
