You’ve seen Part 1–now enjoy Part 2 of our interview with Andrew Migliore, founder of Portland, Oregon’s H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival. Here, he talks about some of his notable guests from the past, and what he hopes to accomplish with the festival in the future:
We’ve had some excellent footage from the 2009 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and Cthulucon, an annual celebration of classic horror, movies, comics, literature, and more in Portland, Oregon. Now we have the first of a two-part interview with fest founder Andrew Migliore of Lurker Films! He talks about the genesis of the festival 14 years ago and what he has planned for the future:
In honor of Horror Month, artist Todd Herman sat down with us and talked about his upcoming trade paperback, Fall of Cthulhu: Nemesis, out October 28. Herman has been working in comics for years, popping up in high-profile horror projects like Cut, written by Dark Horse Comics’ publisher, Mike Richardson, and The Fog, with his fellow horror aficionado Scott Allie.
While he’s been a working cartoonist for a long time–with forays into animation at Will Vinton Studios–he has really ramped up this year with several projects with Boom! Studios, including the pirate-western Galveston and the latest chapter of the popular Fall of Cthulhu series. Watch the video below to eavesdrop on our conversation about essential elements of horror and how Herman went from a comics fan to a working artist:
Here, Todd talks about his favorite horror movies, including John Carpenter’s The Fog and Spielberg’s Poltergeist, as well as offer tips for aspiring artists:
With a name like that, it’s gotta be one of the featured books this month!
Haunt of Horror presents a collection of classic tales re-imagined by legendary horror artist Richard Corben.
First, it’s Edgar Allan Poe as you’ve never seen him before. Classic Poe stories and poems are transformed into weird and disturbing new comic-book fantasies, with the original Poe texts printed alongside the new tales as an added bonus. It’s a frightening new presentation of Poe-inspired murder, madness and monstrosities!
Then, Corben brings you a bold new interpretation full of eerie new spins on the poems and short stories of H.P. Lovecraft. Each adaptation is beautifully rendered in black and white with gray tones as only Corben can do it – along with a printing of the original source text by H.P. Lovecraft.
Not too shabby, right? Want more? How about picking it up for just $20? Done. Today only, and while supplies last, you can pick up a copy for $20 bucks.
Prepare to sit back and watch more goodness from this year’s H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and Cthulhucon! Here’s part two of the Dark Horse Comic panel, featuring Editor Shawna Gore and Senior Managing Editor Scott Allie. Here, they discuss Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing and how it revitalized horror comics, and also how Dark Horse chooses its horror titles, including Hellboy and the relaunch of Creepy.
Again: there was very low lighting at the gorgeous Hollywood Theatre, but the sound is excellent. Here we go:
Stay tuned all month, as we’ll be posting panels, interviews, and other fun Lovecraftian stuff!
TFAW.com attended the annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and Cthulhucon this month, and we got to see movies, shorts, and panels on all things horror. One of the panels we attended was Dark Horse Comics’ Horror Comics panel, where editors Shawna Gore (Eerie, Emily the Strange) and Scott Allie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hellboy), discussed the history of horror comics.
Be warned: there was very low lighting at the gorgeous Hollywood Theatre, but the sound is excellent, and really, isn’t the dark, moody video footage in keeping with Lovecraftian fiction? Watch part one below:
