February Product Review Contest Winners

Tagged Under : , , ,

Every month, we choose a few outstanding product reviewers and send them free stuff as part of our Product Review Contest. There were a bunch of great product reviews last month, but it was pretty easy to pick three winners. Their reviews stood out:

Ryan reviewed the Siege: Prelude TPB and here’s what he had to say.

Good cross-section of titles, from what will go down (in my opinion) as an interesting chapter in Marvel continuity. “Prelude” features quick but sophisticated stories and some amazing artwork, especially in the New Avengers Annual #3!

I loved the inclusion of the classic “End of the Green Goblin” two-parter from 1960s Amazing Spider-Man. The “Warriors Three” story, at first looking silly, turns out to be a well-written, witty little treat. I’m not sure if everyone will, but I got a copy of “The Origins of Siege” with my Prelude order.

This TPB doesn’t spoon-feed the reader with exactly why certain titles are included, but some inclusions become obvious after reading the first issue of Siege. Not a bad buy if you’re getting back into comics (like I am) right before Siege.

Luke from Oregon wrote some really cool reviews for Abe Sapien, B.P.R.D.: War on Frogs, and the new Supernatural series to name a few. He was by far the most prolific reviewer this month, and we appreciate his opinion.

Here’s what he had to say about Abe Sapien:
One wonderfully suspenseful and creepy comic. While not nearly as good as “The Drowning” it still deserves a 5 star rating. It is a good old fashioned demon/haunting detective story highlighting Abe’s deductive strengths as part of the BPRD. Check it out.

Last, but certainly not least, Ian from the Bay Area had some positive and negative reviews for us last month. Check out what he had to say about Spider-Man: One More Day TPB.

This is an abomination and quite possibly the worst idea in comic history by having Peter Parker who is known for doing whats right no matter what MAKING A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL that makes him give up his marriage with MJ to make Aunt May feel better… and if you still want to read this after that then there is no hope for you…

All three of this month’s winners will get $25 TFAW gift certificates to pick up anything they want! Thank you to everybody who submitted product reviews last month and congratulations to the winners.

As always, we’re choosing our product reviews carefully, so please don’t submit duplicate reviews or submissions from other merchant websites. You don’t have to like the product to snag a winning review, so feel free to rant or gush.

So submit your reviews and help your fellow collectors, and us, sort out the “HOT” from the “NOT”! Who knows, you may be one of next month’s winners.

HOW TO SUBMIT A PRODUCT REVIEW:
It’s simple! Just visit any product page and look for this:

Click on it and our product review form will appear in a popup. Just fill out the pertinent information and submit your review, and you’re done! We’ll take a look at your review and get it up on the product page soon thereafter!

There’s also a really easy way for you to call up everything you’ve ever ordered from us and review it. Simply log in to your account and go into the Order History Section. Next to each item, you’ll see a “Review it!” link.

January Product Review Contest Winners

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Every month, we choose a few outstanding product reviewers and send them free stuff as part of the Product Review Contest. It took awhile for us to wade through all of last month’s great product reviews, but we finally got through them. Without further ado:

Jonathan from St. Petersburg, FL wanted to let other Mignola fans know what he thought of The Black Goddess TPB.

B.P.R.D. has been building up to a thunderous explosion in the latest volume. The Black Goddess sees Abe and company tracking down and confronting the elusive Memnan Saa. Character moments shines with Abe’s anger over Liz’s kidnapping, Kate’s curiosity over Saa’s history and Johan being manipulated by an old enemy of Memnan Saa’s.

I find myself more interested in B.P.R.D. than Hellboy lately due to the fact that the story seems to be going somewhere. Over in the Hellboy comic we find out Hellboy is related to King Arthur, that’s great. I’m seeing Dragons attack frog monsters in the B.P.R.D. world and crazy cultists manipulating characters while others fight back. John Arcudi seems to really help Mignolia in the writing department. As always Guy Davis artwork is awesome. I hope these guys continue to tell more stories together.

Tamara from Oklahoma took the time to write reviews of a bunch of stationery sets. If you’re in the market, check a few out and see what she had to say.

Last, but certainly not least, Ryan from New Jersey had some pretty well-written reviews for us last month, one of which was for Aliens Vs. Predator #1.

I don’t know how much more you can hype up this AVP series. A story line which I though was dead for close to two decades is brought back.

Stradley is back to bring you a third chapter of AVP and if it’s anything like the first two (which are both contained in Aliens Vs Predator Omnibus 1 (if you haven’t read them, you should)) then it’s going to be one of the best comics of the year.

And Also coming back is Machiko Noguchi, a character I thought was long forgotten about. And Machiko is bringing in something I’ve always wanted in a AVP series, CONTINUITY!

The story in this first issue jumps right in, it slows for a bit to reintroduce the main character, and then sets the story up for the rest of the series. I have absolutely no complaints, this is great!

The art is also very good, it definitely shows the artist’s style. It’s something new, it’s like a step aside from what has now become common and it pulls it off in a way that isn’t artsy and hard to look at. At first it was a bit off putting but every time I come back to it I appreciate it more and more.

And the final thing is the covers, these are the best covers I have ever seen! I’m astounded that it’s just one artist doing them all. Raymond Swanland is definitely going to be a name I remember from this series. I really wish that there was a poster for one of these comics.

This series has the line up to make a great limited series. It has everything a fan of AVP could want and for new comers it fills in all the gaps to make it nice and easy to read. I’d still recommend reading the first AVP and AVP: War but it isn’t necessary to enjoy this story.

If you want a comic with action and a good story, this is it.

There’s hunters, there’s killers, and everything in between them so it’s best if you just check this out and see what I mean.

We’re also looking for reviews of the product rather than company or service reviews (though we value these as well!).

December Product Review Contest Winners

Tagged Under : , , ,

Every month, we choose a few outstanding product reviewers and send them free stuff as part of the Product Review Contest. There were a lot of great product reviews last month, but a few reviewers caught our eye:

Sheli from Havertown, PA really took the time to write some fantastic product reviews this month, one of which was for Chew Vol. 1 TPB. Here’s what she had to say:

READ THIS.
That is all I have to say.
Okay, that isn’t all I have to say.

This isn’t your standard superhero title or thriller comic, and that is one of the many things that makes this comic great. It is off the beaten path and widly entertaining.

Not to mention the art. It’s an odd combination of a cartoony sketch wrought with personality, but no matter what it is fun to look at.

The premise sounds awkward, but it works brilliantly. There is not much that can be summed up about this book that has not been said. It truly is it’s own experience, and I highly recommend it.

(Of course, if you are gun-ho about the standard super-hero book, this might not be completely up your alley. I would say try it anyway, but that would challenge you to be adventurous….)

Michael from Pittsburgh, PA took some serious time to write his 3-star review of The Mask Omnibus Volume 1 – nick & dent, and we really appreciate his effort. You should go check out his review…I’ll wait….

We’ve been helping comics fans find their favorite books and products for 31 years, so we thought it would make sense to give this month’s winners $31 gift certificates!

Thank you to everybody who submitted product reviews last month and congratulations to the winners.

As always, we’re choosing our product reviews carefully, so please don’t submit duplicate reviews or submissions from other merchant websites. We’re also looking for reviews of the product rather than company or service reviews (though we value these as well!).

So submit your reviews and help your fellow collectors, and us, sort out the “HOT” from the “NOT”! Who knows, you may be one of next month’s winners.
